Moderation
Use moderation tools to keep your comments, Community Chat, and other community spaces safe and on-topic.
Overview
Moderation covers the actions you take to manage user-generated content: reviewing comments on content, chat messages, reports, and flagged items; deleting or hiding content; and blocking or restricting users when necessary. Good moderation protects your audience and keeps the community healthy.
Where to moderate
Comments
- Location — In the creator dashboard, open a video, Short, livestream, or course lesson and go to the Comments tab (or Moderation → Comments).
- Actions — Pin, hide, or delete comments; block users from commenting. Handle flagged or reported comments in the queue.
- Details — See Community Chat for comments on content and moderation.
Community Chat
- Location — Message Center (or Community → Chat → Message Center) in the creator dashboard. You see live chat by topic, plus Flagged and Reports.
- Flagged — Messages that viewers flagged for review. For each: Ignore (remove flag, keep message) or Delete (remove message).
- Reports — Messages reported with a reason and reporter. Ignore the report or Delete the message. Use this to prioritize and take action.
- In the chat UI — Admins can delete any message; viewers can delete only their own. You can block users from the message or from their profile when supported.
- Details — See Community Chat for topic access, permissions, and moderation tables.
Moderation actions
| Action | What it does | Use when |
|---|---|---|
| Delete | Removes the message or comment from public view | Spam, abuse, off-topic, or policy violation |
| Hide | Hides from public view but you can still see it (comments) | You want to hide without notifying or you may unhide later |
| Pin | Pins a comment to the top (comments) | Announcements, rules, or key replies |
| Ignore (flag/report) | Dismisses the flag or report; message stays | False reports or no violation |
| Block user | Stops the user from posting (and sometimes from other features) | Repeat offenders or serious abuse |
Best practices
Set clear rules
- Comment and chat policy — In a pinned comment, channel description, or dedicated page, state what’s allowed and not (e.g. be respectful, no spam, no self-promotion). Link to it from Community Chat or the first video.
- Consequences — Say what happens when rules are broken (e.g. comment removed, then temporary ban, then permanent block).
Review regularly
- Flagged and reports — Check Flagged and Reports in Message Center often so issues are handled quickly.
- Comments queue — Review comments on new or popular content (videos, Shorts, livestreams, courses); use filters for “flagged” or “reported” when available.
Be consistent and fair
- Apply rules equally — Treat similar violations the same way so the community trusts your decisions.
- Explain when helpful — For borderline cases, a short reply (e.g. “Removed because…”) can help others understand the line. Don’t argue with abusers.
Use access controls
- Restrict who can post — Use subscription or one-time purchase requirements for chat topics or comments on content to reduce anonymous abuse.
- Read-only or attachment-only — For chat, use read-only or attachment-only topics where only admins post or viewers can only share images.
Handling abuse and escalation
- Spam — Delete and, if repeated, block the user. Consider restricting chat or comments to members.
- Harassment or hate — Delete the content and block the user. If the channel supports it, report to platform/support for further action.
- Impersonation — Delete and block; state in your policy that impersonation isn’t allowed.
- Legal or safety — If you see threats, illegal content, or content that risks someone’s safety, delete it and follow your channel’s and platform’s reporting and legal procedures.
FAQ
Where do I see all flagged and reported items?
For chat: Message Center → Flagged and Reports. For comments: the content’s Comments tab or Moderation → Comments (and use “flagged” or “reported” filters if available).
Can I have moderators help?
If your channel supports roles, you can assign moderators who can delete messages, hide comments, or handle the queue; they typically can’t change channel settings. Check your dashboard for Team or Roles.
What’s the difference between flag and report?
Flag = quick “mark for review” (no reason). Report = includes a reason and reporter so you can prioritize and act.
Can blocked users still watch content?
Usually yes. Blocking typically stops them from posting comments and chat; it doesn’t always revoke access to viewing. Check your channel’s behavior for “block” and “ban.”
