Ads

Earn revenue from ads shown on your videos and channel while keeping control over placement, formats, and brand safety.

Overview

Ads let you monetize your content through video (pre-roll, mid-roll, post-roll) and display placements. You can enable ads at the channel or content level, choose ad formats, and use controls to keep the experience appropriate for your audience.

Why use ads

  • Additional revenue — Earn from ad impressions and clicks alongside subscriptions and one-time purchases.
  • Flexible formats — Video ads (before, during, or after content) and display ads where supported.
  • Control — Turn ads on or off per video or per channel; use brand-safety and category settings where available.
  • Wide reach — Monetize free viewers who haven’t subscribed or purchased.

Ad formats

Video ads

  • Pre-roll — Short ad before the main video.
  • Mid-roll — Ads during playback (e.g. at natural break points).
  • Post-roll — Ad after the video ends.

Format and length depend on your channel’s ad setup and demand.

Display ads

  • Banners or native units shown around the player or in the layout (e.g. sidebar, below video). Availability depends on your channel configuration.

Enabling and configuring ads

Channel-level

  1. Go to MonetizationAds (or ChannelMonetization).
  2. Enable ads for the channel and accept any required terms.
  3. Set default preferences (e.g. skip allowed, max ad length) where options exist.

Content-level

  • Per video — When uploading or editing a video or livestream, turn ads on or off for that piece of content.
  • Per content type — Some channels can set defaults for Shorts, long-form, or livestreams.

Brand safety and categories

Where available:

  • Block categories — Exclude ad categories that don’t fit your brand (e.g. alcohol, gambling).
  • Sensitive content — Mark content as sensitive or restricted so ad demand matches your audience and policies.

For viewers

  • Skip — Many video ads are skippable after a few seconds; behavior depends on the ad and your settings.
  • Ad-free with membership — If you offer subscriptions, you can often enable an “ad-free” benefit for paying members so they see fewer or no ads.
  • Complaints — Viewers can report inappropriate ads via the ad feedback option (when shown); you can use that and brand-safety settings to reduce bad experiences.

Revenue and reporting

In MonetizationAds (or Analytics):

  • Earnings — Revenue from ad impressions and clicks.
  • Fill rate — How often ad requests were filled.
  • Performance — Views, completions, and engagement by placement or content.

Use this to see which content or formats perform best and to spot issues (e.g. low fill in certain regions).

Best practices

  • Balance ad load — Too many or long mid-rolls can hurt retention; use sparingly and at natural breaks.
  • Offer ad-free tiers — Use subscriptions with an “ad-free” benefit to convert heavy viewers into members.
  • Brand safety — Review and tighten category blocks and content labels to protect your audience and brand.
  • Test — Try different placements and formats and use reporting to optimize.

FAQ

Can I turn off ads for specific videos?
Yes. When editing a video (or livestream), you can disable ads for that item.

Do subscribers see ads?
Only if you don’t grant an “ad-free” benefit to their subscription tier. If ad-free is enabled for their tier, they typically see no or fewer ads.

How do I block certain ad categories?
In MonetizationAds (or Channel settings), use brand-safety or category-blocking options when available.

When do I get paid?
Payout timing depends on your platform and threshold; check Monetization or Payouts in the dashboard.
